Hey, guys! My name is Brentoni. I’m a travel planner and tour leader for Tanuki Tours. After spending a year with the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme, which exposed me to the wonders of the Japanese countryside in rural Gunma Prefecture, I returned to France, where I continued studying Japanese, gradually progressing from JLPT N5 level (beginner’s Japanese) all the way to the highest level, JLPT N1. I've been fortunate to travel all over Japan and, after leading a small group tour to Japan in Fall 2023, I realized that perhaps I could do this for a living. I’m passionate about what I do and I can’t wait to meet you.
Our trips highlight delightful off-the-beaten-track destinations that other travel companies surely know about, yet too often skip because of the extra hassle or cost. Sure, big cities make for simple transit from point A to point B, and our tours would never shun Kyoto or Tokyo - each is a rich universe unto itself - yet Japan’s soul still resides in its inaka, a countryside surrounded by mountainous wilderness. At Tanuki Tours, we’ve placed the Japanese inaka at the heart of what we do, so that you get the chance to fall in love just like we did.
Beyond this, though, we strongly believe that different travelers experience travel in different ways, and that’s why we offer a variety of concept tours that not only highlight different cities and regions, but also different activities and interests, such as our Green Tour, which caters to those who feel most fulfilled when experiencing their environment by hiking and cycling it, whereas our Silver Tour will appear more to those who prefer a slower pace, surrounded by classic Japanese aesthetics deep in the mountains.
Japan is a once-in-a-lifetime destination for most people. For that reason, our top priority is delivering an experience that feels thorough and satisfying to each traveler. We’ve leveraged our deep knowledge of the country along with thorough research of other tours on the market to offer exciting itineraries available nowhere else.
For the sake of sustainability and authenticity, we are committed to using public transportation at every opportunity, including buses, ferries and, yes, bullet trains. Also, to foster a real sense of camaraderie within the group, we aim to cap each tour at eight travelers (plus one guide). We also believe that the intimacy of a small group of likeminded travelers may lead to lasting friendships even after the journey ends.
Finally, in light of the recent surge in international tourism to Japan, we are engaging seriously with the challenge of limiting our impact on Japanese society so as to avoid disrupting the lives of locals and so that the wonderful places we visit never lose their unique charm, while also, where possible, facilitating genuine interactions between our travelers and local people.
